Calculate Gallons Needed
Below are some general formulas to aid in determining the required volume of water in gallons. It is essential to note that these formulas provide a basic calculation for volume estimation.
Measurements in the calculation MUST be in feet for the volume in gallons to come out correctly. Please do not use inches! For partial feet use a decimal point. For instance, use 12.5 ft for 12 and 1/2 feet, or 12 feet and 6 inches.
Average Depth = depth at the deep end + the depth at the shallow end / 2.
4 Sided Pools - Multiply length x width x average depth x 7.5 = gallons
Round Pools - Multiply diameter x diameter x average depth x 5.9 = gallons
Oval Pools - Multiply full width x full length x average depth x 6.7 = gallons
***Note on round pools***
Diameter = the full length across the pool.
For the above formula you take the diameter in feet and multiply it by itself, then multiply it by the average depth desired, then multiplied by 5.9.
